Shared or dedicated container space

Less-than-container-load (LCL) brings shipments together within a shared container. Full-container-load (FCL) reserves a container for one shipment, although the cargo need not physically fill every part of it.

Volume alone does not decide

Consider handling, packaging, readiness, destination charges and the cost of the complete movement. A smaller shipment may favour shared space, while a larger one may warrant a dedicated container. There is no universal cubic-metre threshold that decides every quotation.

Make the comparison fair

• Use the same cargo measurements for both requests.
• State whether goods are stackable and palletised.
• Compare equivalent collection and delivery scope.
• Ask about cargo cut-off, handling and exclusions.
