Air-freight chargeable-weight calculator

Compare actual weight and volumetric weight to estimate air-freight chargeable weight.

Measure each package after packing. Add a group for each different size or weight.

Use these estimates when requesting a quote. Your carrier may apply different divisors, minimums or rounding rules.

The calculation, explained

Volume in cubic metres = length × width × height in metres × quantity. Add each package group to calculate total volume.

Worked example

Two packages measuring 60 × 50 × 40 cm occupy 0.24 m³ in total.

At a divisor of 6,000 cm³/kg, that volume represents 40 kg volumetric weight. If each package weighs 15 kg, actual weight totals 30 kg; the estimated chargeable weight is therefore 40 kg.

The default divisor follows DHL Global Forwarding’s published example (reviewed 23 September 2026). Confirm the applicable divisor, aggregation and rounding rules with your carrier.
